PRIVATE YOGA SESSIONS

Doing yoga at home is a lot different than being at a studio but taking out time for movement can do wonders both for your mind and body. If you want to receive personal guidance during your yoga practice then you should consider taking an online private yoga class.

Let’s see the benefits you will be getting from your private yoga class:

  1. Most of us are busy these days, and taking time out for yoga feels like adding more stress and complexity to our lives rather than making it less. Individual sessions allow you to take the class from the comfort of your home and at the time that works for you.
  2. There will be a free introductory session to know each other and discuss your goals, interest, and motivations to do the practice. During this intake session, you can share any experience you have in yoga, or what you want to get out of the class. You can also discuss your preferred length, time, and frequency of the lessons.
  3. During your free consultation session, you will get the opportunity to share your intentions with your teacher, which can vary from person to person. It could be wanting to learn the basics of yoga, and focus on the techniques of common yoga poses and breathing techniques, or going deep into a particular yoga style like Hatha, Vinyasa, or Restorative.
  4. Whether you are new to yoga or have been practicing for a long time, it is always valuable to receive personalized feedback on your practice including alignment and techniques within specific yoga poses, and breathing techniques. Getting personalized feedback from the teacher is also possible in a group class, but as the teacher is guiding the whole class, the attention is equally spread over the group to ensure that everyone gets the most out of the practice.

How to prepare for your online private class?

  1. If it is your first online class please have Zoom/ Teams downloaded on your device before the class. Also, do a test run to check your audio and video. It is better to use your laptop or tablet rather than your mobile to get the most out of the class, as the screen will be bigger and the sound quality better. However, if a mobile phone is the only option, don’t worry you will get advice on how to get the most out of the device available to you.
  2. Adjust the position of your laptop, tablet, or web camera in advance allowing the camera angle to show you as much as possible during the class.
  3. Wear light comfortable clothing that allows a wide range of movement and doesn’t restrict your breathing.
  4. Avoid eating a heavy meal an hour to two hours before the class so that you don’t feel sluggish.

What to expect during your online class?

  1. Based on your introductory meeting, the teacher will be prepared with an outline for the class.
  2. At the start of the class, the teacher will check in with you about how you are feeling and if any parts of the body need special attention due to any pain or injury. If you have any extra thoughts about what you want to cover in class, now is the right time to share them
  3. Throughout the class, you will be guided with physical demonstrations and verbal cues. The teacher will practice along with you and also stop to see how you are getting on.
  4. The teacher will continue asking you during the practice how you are getting on with your postures and particular techniques and if you have any questions. It is your preference to ask questions before, during, or after practice.

What should you do after your class to consolidate your learning?

Just after the class, take a moment to reflect on how you feel. This gives you internal feedback on how the session has benefitted you and if any part of the session was too much. Think about any questions you may have or things you would like to focus on for the next class. Keeping a journal to note down a few key learnings from each class can be a great way to track your progress. You will get to choose to have your online class recorded which you can use as a later resource for your practice.
